How to buy a domain name

One of the most vital things to an online presence is a domain name. This can be used for a web site, a blog, an email address, a business or even kept as an investment.
  1. First of all, you need to choose the domain name you want. You can search for available domain names at any of the major domain name registrars such as Godaddy, Namecheap, enom, dyandot etc
  2. Once you have found one, you need to decide where to register it.

Prices vary depending on the registrar and the extension (i.e. whether it has dot com, net, org or something else on the end). However, all the major registrars have different interfaces, and you might prefer one to the other. For this tutorial, Godaddy will be used an example.
  3. You will need an account at Godaddy. Registration doesn't take two minutes. Make sure your password isn't obvious or guessable
  4. Log in, and make sure the domain you are after is still available

  5. Continue to checkout, and when you arrive at the page entitled 'Domain Registration Information', choose the first option

  6. You will then be required to make payment. You can pay by credit card if that is most convenient for you, or by PayPal. This is very easy if you have a PayPal account, and means you don't have to reveal your credit card details.
  7. And you are done! You should now be able to view the domain when you log into Godaddy and click on 'My Domains'.
Note: The domain might take a few minutes to show up in your account.
