How to delete files that just don't delete

Isn't it just so annoying when you want to delete a file or folder, and you get an error message like the one below?

"Cannot delete file: Access is denied"
"The source or destination file may be in use."
"The file is in use by another program or user."

... or something along those lines. Fortunately, there are ways of getting around this.
  1. First, you want to be sure that the file isn't actually open. Check any windows you might have open.
  2. The easiest ways of getting around the problem of error messages when you try to do something to a file is just to use a different file manager. This isn't as complicated as it sounds (it's not complicated at all). You just need to download and install an alternative to windows explorer. One example is explorerxp. You can download it from here.

There are many other file managers available, and a quick Google search will give you a various results.
  3. Alternatively, you can download and install a nice little program called 'Unlocker' - you can get it from here
  4. Once you have this program installed, you can right-click on the file or folder which is giving you the error, and 'unlock' it.
