How to edit videos in windows movie maker

Most windows PC's will have Windows Movie Maker installed by default, and though it may not seem like it, it is actually quite a useful tool. You can remove parts of videos, put a video together differently, combine different clips together, add sound, add titles and have nice transitions.

Removing bits

  1. Start windows movie maker
  2. Import the video you want to edit
    Import video
  3. Play the video, and when you reach the beginning of the bit you want to cut out, press 'split'
  4. This will result in another clip being created
  5. Play the newly created created clip, and when you reach the end of the bit you want to cut out, press 'split'
  6. This will result in another clip being created.
  7. Now you can delete the clip that was created when you pressed 'split' at the beginning of the bit you meant to cut out.
  8. This will leave two clips, which you can then merge by highlighting and right-clicking on them and clicking 'combine'

  2. Once you've sorted all the video out, import the audio
  3. Drag the file onto the audio section of the video. You can place it wherever you like
  4. You can change how loud the audio is compared to the video, using the function to change the audio level.

    Add a title
  2. Choose 'Title at the beginning', and enter the title
  3. You can also change the title animation and the font and colours.

  4. Once you have added the title, a new clip will be created. You can move this anywhere (in between the clips) and even shorten or lengthen the amount of time the title will display.
